Volleyball
This is a sport where the majority of the students start with very little experience, but soon realise that it is a physically demanding sport with lots of movement and skills.
Each training session is intense with the first half based on technique and skills, and the second half on playing games. We are very fortunate to have Dr Henryk Lakomy from Loughborough University joining us, an international volleyball coach, to demonstrate and give training advice. Dr Lakomy coaches the very successsful Loughborough Dolphins team who train at Welbeck on Tuesday evenings. He has also invented a 'spiking machine' – and we get to use three of these, which greatly improve the quality of that particular activity.
Though volleyball is a 'recreational sport' in that there are few fixtures, games are competitive, and the House match is keenly contested. Each House plays one 25 point set against each other House.
Several students become accomplished players who will no doubt take up the sport more seriously at University.
