Pezza Brings Home the Pots (July 2009)
In the second week of the summer holidays I was contacted by the College Adjutant Lt Grey who is a ex- captain of the Navy Rowing team, and asked if I wanted to go to the Inter services regatta on Wednesday the 15th of July, and cox for a few crews containing the odd Olympian or two.
With only experience of coxing for the college side before hand, I was apprehensive, but accepted the challenge, with the hope of coxing some of the military sides to victory. The event was held at Eton’s Dorney Rowing lake, the base of the army rowing club, and the future Olympic rowing lake.
Firstly I coxed the ARMY mens veteran 4’s, down the 1.25k course, the crew were technically superb, and fit, and the boat flew down the course, to come in first. Two more races with RN mens 4’s, novice and intermediate brought me a couple more wins, losing only the Navy women’s eight, of four races.
The day was a great success, both on paper, and in getting to know people from my chosen corps, the Royal Engineers.
