Badminton 2009/10 Season Review

The Girls 2009/2010 badminton season started off with much anticipation with 3 new members to the team. Joining Laura Mason from last years team were Katherine Davies, Hannah Beresford and myself. Having not played badminton as a team before, nerves were quite high from the beginning, but the eagerly anticipated first match of the season was quite a success. Throughout the season the strength of the opponents really varied and following some quite staggering losses, we managed to pull out some outstanding wins. Out of 4 matches, we secured two wins in which we also won all the individual games played in each match! Scores were as follows:

Even though we only got the chance to play 4 league matches, the improvements in performance of the team as a whole was an achievement to be proud of in such a short space of time and I’m sure next season’s team will be just as and if not more, successful.

Welbeck badminton ventured unchartered territory this year by having two boys teams. This new move was bought about by the exceptionally high quality of players this season. Badminton sessions occur twice weekly and are conducted by an external coach.

This season saw some delightful matches of both home and away. The competition this year was extremely fierce leading to five matches lost and two won. However, the boys team came top overall in the local league thanks to wonderful coaching from both Ma’am Calland and Mr. Armstrong, and sheer badminton bravery! The 1st Team’s invitation to attend the Leicestershire Racket Sport Celebration Event was gladly accepted and is a pleasant ending to the season.
