Welbeck Engineering Competiton (February 2010)
On Friday 26th February all of the students participated in the Engineering Competition. This was an inter-House event which tested the students’ planning ability as well as being able to construct what they had designed. Furthermore, this Competition also allowed the Welbeck students to show how well they were capable of working in teams.
There were three challenges that the Houses were able to pre-prepare for, the first of which was a challenge to build a boat capable of crossing the swimming pool. The designs for these boats proved to be rather over ambitious, however, with many boats not performing as well as hoped. The second challenge was to build a bridge designed and built by one of the Welbeck students which would be capable of supporting a small tank. The third challenge was to build a release system, which was attached to a plane, and had to be released at certain points throughout flight.
On the day three additional challenges took place - one to build a device capable of firing a projectile through a piece of our obstacle course known as the ‘hole in the wall’, the second to build a water rocket and the third to construct a marble run.
Everybody enjoyed the competition, working well in the groups assigned, while also showing that although there is a friendly rivalry between the Houses we are all extremely competitive when given a challenge – and as for the eventual overall winners of the Competition?
Congratulations went to Alanbrooke House!
