Daily Life
Whilst at college the students are ‘on duty’ 24 hours a day and seven days a week. Their academic development takes place in the classrooms, their physical fitness is carefully organised in the appropriate facilities (the sporting field, gymnasium and swimming pool) and personal development takes place in all areas.
A significant amount of time is spent in the boarding house and the living conditions have been arranged to provide an appropriate environment for them to live and work in.
The communal areas provide a focal point for all members of the house. The house parents’ accommodation adjoins the house blocks. There will always be someone on duty to look after the needs of the boarders. Attached to each house are four tutors who will have set duty nights in the house and accommodation within the house block; as well as access to one of the house offices.
It is the responsibility of everyone to make sure the living areas are kept clean and tidy. There is a Housekeeper and dedicated cleaning team in each house; they are responsible for meeting the needs of everyone who is resident in the house blocks. This includes daily cleaning, laundry, post and maintenance.
It is important everyone recognises that each house is a community where every individual has a role to play. It is important that the living environment is respected and kept in good order as this will generate living conditions which are safe, appropriate and help us to enjoy, to the full, our day to day activities.
Health & Safety Policy as well as the Boarding Standards set out the requirements for the living accommodation; this includes the classrooms, subject specific teaching areas and other college facilities which are used by the students and staff. Everyone has a responsibility to ensure these standards are met an adhered to.
We endeavour to provide everyone with a living and working environment which prepares young people for citizenship in technologically demanding careers whilst recognising the nature of living in a boarding community.
