Pre selectionYour training time should initially last about 20 to 25 minutes (not including warm-up). As you become fitter this time can be extended. Training can be done at any time.

Access to a gymnasium or weight training equipment would be beneficial but if this is not possible the programme can be easily be done at home. If possible train with a partner. This is safer and will help you to stay motivated.

Think about what you eat and drink. If you smoke, consider stopping or at least cutting down. Don't train directly after eating, wait at least 1 1/2 hours or even longer after a heavy meal.

Ensure that you warm up and cool down correctly when training.

Ensure you drink plenty of fluids (water) before, during and after training.

Getting fit is a gradual process. If you experience pain or discomfort which limits what you can do at any time during your exercise programme, stop immediately and seek medical advice. You should only start training again when your doctor says it is safe to do so. If you find your preperation for the Recruit Selection Centre is being held up by medical problems, make sure you inform your Armed Forces Careers Office.

Once you have met the physical selection standards at the Recruit Selection Centre you will need to continue exercising regularly and maintain your fitness up to the time you join the Army Training Regiment to start your training.

We dont expect you to be super fit when you join, but before you can be selected, you will need to meet our physical selection standards. As long as you prepare yourself, you will be able to meet the basic standards easily.

Start now and give yourself the best chance you can of being selected for the Army.

Don't train if you have an injury or are unwell. Seek medical advice and treatment.
If you have any medical problems consult a doctor before you start training.
